Lee Somi Daom Medi-Wall Pilates Education Center Hosts Specialist Training with Professor Hong Jung-gi
The Lee Somi Daom Medi-Wall Pilates Education Center in Jinju recently conducted a Pilates instructor training session featuring Professor Hong Jung-gi, a renowned authority in the field of sports medicine.
This training program was specifically designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Participants studied core sports medicine theories, including musculoskeletal structures, injury prevention, and the balance between strength and flexibility, while simultaneously engaging in hands-on practice for real-world class settings. During the lectures, Professor Hong provided specific guidance on how instructors can effectively respond to various situational challenges based on recurring field cases. Representatives from the center emphasized that the curriculum went beyond simple theory, ensuring that the content could be immediately utilized in professional practice.
Director Lee Somi, a physical education major and an accomplished author, recently published “Recovery Begins When Senses Are Revived,” a book focusing on VDT (Visual Display Terminal) Syndrome. Her extensive career includes developing recovery exercise programs for breast cancer patients, serving as a breathing trainer, and acting as the Jinju Education Director for the K-Wall International Union. She has also served as an examiner and education committee member for the International Integrated Therapy Association. Her professional credentials span sports massage, athlete rehabilitation, senior and kids’ pilates, German Schroth scoliosis correction, pre/postnatal pilates, and international aromatherapy.
K-Wall is an organization dedicated to establishing standardized curricula and certification systems for yoga, pilates, and therapy. Through various training programs, it supports the continuous professional development of instructors. The Jinju Education Center aligns with this mission by focusing on field experience and repetitive learning rather than the mere acquisition of a certificate.
The center also operates a robust post-certification support system. Instructors receive systematic feedback through class observations, lesson plan reviews, and monitoring of member responses. Director Lee Somi explained that the goal is not to evaluate individual performance, but to identify recurring patterns in the field and strengthen overall teaching capabilities. This includes checking instructor fatigue levels, managing member demands, and troubleshooting program structures.
Participating instructors reported a significant boost in confidence. One instructor noted that applying the connection between the musculoskeletal system and breathing helped deepen their understanding, while another mentioned that the feedback on member reactions allowed for better adjustments in class pacing and rest periods.
In a pilot program involving 10 new instructors, the center conducted follow-up education and observational sessions. By recording class structures and instructor fatigue, they adjusted intensity and teaching methods as needed. Center officials stressed that systematizing an instructor’s management pattern through long-term observation is more vital than seeking short-term results.
This program distinguishes itself by simultaneously addressing field-specific problems and structural analysis. Instead of ending at certification, the center records recurring issues in the classroom to develop structural solutions. For instance, by collecting data on instructor physical strain and member-specific requests, the center developed standardized guidelines for lesson planning and rest intervals.
Operators believe this follow-up system plays a positive role in managing the difficulties instructors face on the job. Experts agree that post-certification support is directly linked to class safety and the quality of the member experience. Members who participated in classes led by these instructors reported a greater sense of stability and noticed a clear difference in the precision of the guidance provided.
Director Lee Somi stated that the program’s priority lies in a structural approach—recording and improving recurring issues while enhancing technical skills. The ultimate goal is to help instructors design safe classes and manage member experiences effectively. Moving forward, the center plans to continue refining its programs based on observation and data, establishing a sustainable and stable model for nurturing professional instructors.
