[2026 100 Therapists Interview] Park Yeong-bin, President of the Korea Therapy Yoga Association
“Yoga Nidra is more than just relaxation; it is a scientific relaxation technique that restores the balance of Doshas.“
Park Yeong-bin, who has walked the path of yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda for 23 years, found the answer to the chronic mental and physical imbalances of modern people in “conscious rest.” Continuing her work in integrated healing education centered around Vini Yoga & Daom Pilates in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, she was selected as one of the “100 Therapists” by the International Association of Integrative Therapy (IAIT) in 2026. We met her to discuss the essence of mental and physical integrated recovery.
Q1. You have walked the path of “healing” for 23 long years. What is the essence of recovery as you define it?
A. I believe that even if the body improves, one becomes ill again if the mind collapses; conversely, even with mental practice, one lacks the “strength to endure” if the body is too exhausted. Therefore, I focus on the integrated recovery of mind and body, meaning that both must recover in a single flow. My book, Yoga and Ayurveda (2025), ultimately aims to help individuals experience energy recovery suited to their specific Dosha tendencies through a “life that understands the root cause.”
Q2. Vini Yoga & Daom Pilates in Cheongju is known as a local healing hub. How are the consultations and education structured there?
A. It operates primarily on two pillars: Physical Health Consultations and Educational Programs (Therapy/Lectures). Moving beyond simply teaching Asanas, we conduct a detailed analysis of daily routines—such as sleep, diet, and stress—during the initial in-person consultation. In particular, our center’s core program, Yoga Nidra for complete rest, explores the layers of the unconscious through deep relaxation and allows individuals to experience recovery optimized for their specific constitution.
Q3. Specifically, your scientific approach combining “Yoga Nidra” with Ayurvedic Dosha theory has received significant academic attention. What is the specific principle?
A. Yoga Nidra is a sophisticated neuro-somatic integrative tool. My thesis, A Theoretical Study on the Application of Yoga Nidra Based on Ayurvedic Dosha Theory, analyzed neurological and psychological tendencies by Dosha—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—and presented approaches suitable for each constitution. I am focusing on scientifically proving how Yoga Nidra, as a “technique of conscious rest,” purifies the unconscious and achieves mental-physical integration.
Q4. What is the scientific mechanism by which Yoga Nidra affects nervous system relaxation?
A. Yoga Nidra induces brainwaves into Alpha and Theta states, triggering a deep relaxation response. As discussed in my 2025 academic presentation at the Journal of Neuro-Somatic Integrative Therapy, I am scientifically proving the process by which specific relaxation guides suppress the overactivation of the sympathetic nervous system and help balance neurotransmitters. This is not simple sleep, but a process of reorganizing the nervous system with conscious awareness.
Q5. You emphasize “Scientific Therapy.” What is the most important verification criterion in the field?
A. It is reproducibility and explainable language. Therapy must not remain in the realm of mysticism. I strive to record consultation logs and the process of change based on academic evidence. As proven through my 2025 academic presentation, the value IAIT pursues is therapy that is objectively proven in the field.
Q6. What is the core message you wish to convey to future yoga therapists through your book, Yoga and Ayurveda?
A. It is that the instructor must first understand biological principles. Ayurveda is like a sophisticated map for understanding the unique characteristics of each individual. There are limits to teaching movements without knowing the underlying principles. Only when an instructor designs a routine tailored to a client’s daily life based on Dosha theory can sustainable change be achieved.
Q7. Could you recommend a recovery routine that readers can practice immediately in their daily lives?
A. Try checking the signals that tell you your energy is depleted:
Vata Check: Are you having trouble falling asleep due to endless thoughts? (Nervous system overload)
Pitta Check: Do you feel irritated by trivial matters and feel heat in your body? (Emotional overheating)
Kapha Check: Does your body feel heavy like a thousand pounds, and does lethargy persist? (Energy stagnation)
When you feel these signals, I recommend turning off your smartphone for just 10 minutes and practicing a “Body Scan,” the basis of Yoga Nidra. Just by learning the technique of conscious rest, the quality of your life will change completely.
