Wallegro

The lecture titled Wallegro Barre Class Design for Active Seniors will be held on April 19, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:40 (100 minutes) at the MPA Pilates Conference, led by Director Jimin Lee. This session addresses the growing shift in Pilates and barre instruction as the proportion of senior participants continues to rise.
In recent years, the Pilates field has experienced a noticeable increase in members aged 50 and above. This demographic change is not simply a numerical shift but is influencing how classes are structured and delivered. Instructors and studio operators are now encountering greater demands for pain management, safe movement strategies, and function-oriented exercise programs. As a result, the ability to design classes that go beyond routine movement execution and instead focus on sustainable, long-term physical function has become a critical professional competency.
This lecture emphasizes that traditional Western-style barre movements cannot be applied uniformly to senior populations. Differences in joint range of motion, muscle activation patterns, and lifestyle habits require a more tailored and structured approach. The session introduces the Wallegro system, which is based on Korean body type data, and provides a systematic framework for designing senior-specific barre classes. Key topics include functional movement approaches, recovery of joint mobility, restoration of muscle elasticity, and pain-focused programming.
A major strength of this lecture lies in its practical orientation. Rather than focusing solely on theory, it offers immediately applicable class sequences that can be implemented in real teaching environments. Participants will learn mobility recovery sequences, muscle elasticity enhancement programs, pain management movements, and integrated functional Pilates structures. In addition, real-world class operation methods are covered to ensure that instructors can directly translate the content into their sessions.
Director Jimin Lee is actively engaged in developing functional, senior-focused barre programs using the Wallegro system. Her work centers on helping seniors maintain long-term mobility through structured movement strategies. She has been involved in designing practical sequences for instructors and contributes to professional education programs for senior Pilates specialists.
The MPA Pilates Conference itself is a professional education platform designed for instructors. It focuses on delivering practical, field-ready content through structured training programs, system research, and ongoing development of functional Pilates methodologies. This lecture, in particular, presents a clear direction for the future of senior Pilates and function-based barre class design, offering instructors a structured approach to meet the evolving needs of an aging yet active population.
